The Academic cultural-artistic society KOLO
The Academic cultural-artistic society KOLO (abbreviated AKUD Kolo) was established in 2007 in the town of Koper in a little coast region of Slovenia. Our main goal is to reproduce and present our rich Serbian and Balkan cultural heritage, with responsibility and love, and thus preserve its music, songs, dances and customs.
Keeping in mind the importance of preserving our tradition by handing it down to younger generations, we have started the same year a children's and student`s folk dance group, as well as adult recreational folklore group. Beside folk dance groups there is also the orchestra with different instruments (accordeons, violins, traditional flute, traditional drum and guitar), and two vocal groups consisted of male and female voices. Their continuous improvement is the result of hard work and expert leadership by Mrs. Vesna Bajić Stojiljković, ethnomusicologist and ethnochoreologist, who invest a lot of knowledge, time and passion into creating and carrying out an extensive cultural programme. The leader of the orchestra is accordeonist Mr. Saša Stojiljković. All our programme presents the folklore of different regions of Serbia and other parts of former Yugoslavia.
Inmany guest appearances abroad all of three folklore group have effectively portrayed traditional dance and music: throughout Slovenia, Italy, Czech Republic, Bosniaand Herzegovina, Croatia, Bulgaria and France. Furthermore, a strong desire of our members is to be the part of different festivals, to meet other groups, learn dances and songs from different countries and get in touch with different cultures.
Beside folklore and singing groups, in our society there is a possibility to learn Serbian language inside the creative-educational lessons for children and students which we organize from 2009. The language teacher is Mrs. Nada Čupković, philologist.
The Academic cultural-artistic society KOLO is a member of the Association of cultural societies of Municipality of the town Koper (ZKD MOK), Association of Serbian societies of Slovenia (SSDS) and International Council of organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF).
In 2011 our Society acquired the Status to operate in the public interest in culture by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. The activities of members of our Society undoubtedly affect the enrichment of the cultural life of the Slovenian coast.
